Cho Byeongok (1894 – 1960) was an independence activist and politician who was born in Cheonan. After he graduated Columbia University, he joined the independence movement against the Imperial Japanese colonial rule of Korea. Later on, he ran against incumbent president Syngman Rhee in the 1960 presidential election but unfortunately died on February 15, one month before the election on March 15. His birthplace became well-known throughout the country.
